CNN Covers Montana’s Firearms Freedom Act

September 8, 2009

It took awhile but finally CNN covered the story in Montana of their attempt to tell the Federal Government they have overstepped their authority in dictating to that state what they can and cannot do as far as regulating commerce. At issue is HB246, the Montana Firearms Freedom Act, which was passed in the Montana Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer. The Act says that any guns or parts manufactured in Montana that remain in Montana cannot be regulated by the Federal Government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says the law means nothing to them because federal law supersedes state law. That appears to be something to be settled in the courts in the future. As a matter of fact, Montana has already filed suit requesting a ruling.

Correction: Montana Shooting Sports Association plans to file suit on October 1, 2009, the same day that the Montana Firearms Freedom Act takes effect.

The CNN video appears to be factual. I personally liked what Gov. Schweitzer has to say concerning the federal government. He said when the federal government decides it is going to dictate to Montanans how they will live their everyday lives, he plans to put his foot down and this Act is one way of doing so.
