SCI Litigation Team Needs Assistance From Members Whose Hunting Has Been Affected by Wolves
May 28, 2009
Dear Montana and Idaho Safari Club International Members:
A number of animal rights groups are about to file a lawsuit to challenge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s newest rule that delisted the wolves of your states and that returned wolf management to your state fish and game authorities.
SCI’s Litigation Department will be moving to intervene to defend the wolf delisting rule. To participate in this litigation, we must demonstrate for the court how the rule benefits SCI members and how the Plaintiffs’ success in challenging the rule would harm our members. For that reason we would like to hear from members who: Read more
Complaint Filed Against Gary Marbut, President Montana Shooting Sports Association
May 21, 2009
Many of you probably are already familiar with Gary Marbut. Mr. Marbut, in his capacity as President of the Montana Shooting Sports Association is responsible for the promotion of several bills brought before the Montana Legislature over the course of the legislative season.
Perhaps the highest profile bill that recently wound its way through the Montana Congress and onto the desk of Gov. Brian Schweitzer, of which was signed into law, was HB246, the Montana-Made Gun Bill. This bill challenges the power of the federal government to impose gun restrictions on the citizens of the state of Montana. HB246 declares that any gun or gun product manufactured in Montana and remains in Montana cannot be regulated by the federal government. Read more

Marshall Sage: Government Control by “Eliminating The Sovereignty Of The States”
May 14, 2009
The following is a guest article. I asked Marshall Sage for permission to publish his response to a discussion on state sovereignty and the decimation of the United States Constitution by progressives.
Marshall Sage is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel who has enjoyed the freedom to hunt and fish throughout much of the free world. Most recently radio host for “Outdoor Life” a hunting and fishing program in Southwestern Idaho. A life member of SCI and the NRA. Contact at msage22@gmail.com.
Our founding fathers gave our nation a blueprint on how to avoid a centralized, authoritarian government from taking away our individual freedoms (endowed by our Creator) and rights (Bill of Rights). This blueprint was our Constitution. It’s no accident that in less than 200 years of following this blueprint the United States of America became the most prosperous and industrious nation on earth. May 12, 2009
Gary Marbut, president of the Montana Shooting Sports Association, one of the lead organizations to push through and get passed Montana’s Montana-made firearms bill, HB246, announced today that South Carolina is introducing a similar bill. The other day I told you that the news about HB246 was catching on quickly around the nation and had gone viral.
Senator Lee Bright just introduced another clone of Montana’s HB 246 as the “South Carolina Firearms Freedom Act,” S. 794.
Below is a list of the other states that have similar bills and the links to information about those bills. Read more

May 11, 2009
Gary Marbut is president of the Montana Shooting Sports Association and he and his association were very instrumental in getting the “Montana Made Guns Bill” introduced, passed through the Montana Legislature and signed by Gov. Brian Schweitzer.

Montana’s New Gun Law Going Viral
May 8, 2009
H/T to reader Greg Farber on the Global News Post article.
Montana’s HB246 is the talk of the states it seems these days. It didn’t take too long I suppose but with each passing day, more media, not the main stream though, and new Internet media are picking up on the brazen and testy new gun law bill that Montana signed into law last month. I first brought you that story right here on the Black Bear Blog.
I’ll dispense with all the proper speak and get to the nitty gritty of the bill. Montana’s HB246 says that any guns or gun parts manufactured in the state of Montana and sold exclusively in the state of Montana cannot be regulated by the federal government. Read more
When You Disagree With Wildlilfe Management, Call It “Flawed Science”
May 8, 2009
Words are easy to put together that can make something sound wonderful. Words are incredibly powerful and smart people can use them to alter facts and completely change perceptions and reality. They can just as easily be used to present the truth. It is then left up to the individual to learn and decide for themselves.
Jeremy Hance provides commentary on the “flaws in science” of wolf management on a website called Mongabay.com. I’m not going to spend my time attempting to debunk the commentary but I will say that it contains mostly all the same rhetoric we hear day in and day out about how the top wolf scientists in the world don’t know what they are doing. He presents incomplete information leading readers to believe things that aren’t quite true. But what I find interesting is his interest in convincing readers that science pertaining to wolves should involve non-scientific theories of fantasy about how ignorant man has no understanding of nature and all we ever do is destroy it. After a little internet searching, reading, and checking up on this stuff I found its a pretty well established product in Canada and hails from Quebec where they have this funny habit of speaking a lot of French. Thus the name, Jig-A-Loo, and the companys claim it derives from a saying they have up north, Ive got it!
